Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Stahist AD is an over-the-counter (OTC) combination drug developed and marketed by Magna Pharmaceuticals for the temporary relief of symptoms associated with allergic rhinitis (hay fever), nasal congestion, and the common cold. The product typically contains a combination of triprolidine hydrochloride, a first-generation H1 histamine receptor antagonist (antihistamine), and pseudoephedrine hydrochloride, a sympathomimetic amine that acts as a nasal decongestant. Triprolidine works by competing with histamine for H1-receptor sites on effector cells, thereby reducing allergic symptoms such as sneezing and rhinorrhea. Pseudoephedrine acts on alpha-adrenergic receptors in the respiratory tract mucosa to produce vasoconstriction, which shrinks swollen nasal mucous membranes and improves airway patency. Due to the pseudoephedrine content, Stahist AD is regulated under the Combat Methamphetamine Epidemic Act and is sold behind the pharmacy counter without a prescription.
