Overview

Staloral is a sublingual immunotherapy (SLIT) solution containing a standardized extract of five grass pollens: cocksfoot (Dactylis glomerata), sweet vernal grass (Anthoxanthum odoratum), rye grass (Lolium perenne), meadow grass (Poa pratensis), and timothy (Phleum pratense). Developed by Stallergenes Greer, it is indicated for the treatment of allergic rhinoconjunctivitis. The therapy works by inducing immunological tolerance through regular sublingual administration, which shifts the immune response from a Th2-mediated allergic profile to a more tolerant state involving regulatory T cells and the production of IgG4 antibodies. The POLET (POLlinosis and Exhaled Breath Temperature) study, led by Prof. Todor Popov, investigated the drug's ability to suppress seasonal increases in exhaled breath temperature, a surrogate marker of airway inflammation, in patients with allergic rhinoconjunctivitis and mild asthma.
