Overview

The Standard 2016-2017 Flu vaccine refers to the standard-dose seasonal influenza vaccine used as a comparator in clinical research conducted by the University Health Network (UHN) in Toronto. During the 2016-2017 influenza season, this vaccine was typically a trivalent or quadrivalent inactivated influenza vaccine (IIV) containing 15 μg of hemagglutinin per viral strain. It was evaluated in adult solid organ transplant (SOT) recipients to determine if a high-dose formulation (containing 60 μg per strain) provided superior immunogenicity. The vaccine works by inducing neutralizing antibodies against the hemagglutinin protein of specific influenza A and B strains selected by the World Health Organization for that season.
