Overview
Combination regimen consisting of **standard of care therapies**, **colchicine**, and **rosuvastatin**. This combination has been primarily investigated in hospitalized patients with COVID-19 to assess whether adding colchicine (an anti-inflammatory) and rosuvastatin (a statin for lipid-lowering and cardiovascular protection) to usual hospital treatments could reduce progression to severe disease, thromboembolic events, or mortality. Colchicine works by inhibiting microtubule polymerization and decreasing neutrophil activation and chemotaxis (anti-inflammatory effect). Rosuvastatin is a hydrophilic HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor that lowers LDL cholesterol and exerts anti-inflammatory and endothelial-protective effects. The combination aims to leverage the anti-inflammatory and cardiovascular protective effects of both agents on top of standard therapies, which may include antivirals, corticosteroids, immunomodulators, and antithrombotics.
