Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Standard soy milk is a plant-based beverage being evaluated as a dietary intervention for the treatment of Non-alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD) in children. The intervention focuses on the therapeutic potential of soy isoflavones, which are natural compounds found in soybeans that may exert beneficial effects on liver fat accumulation and metabolic health. In a Phase 2 randomized controlled trial (NCT06133101) led by Dr. Marialena Mouzaki, pediatric patients aged 5-12 consume standard soy milk twice daily for 12 weeks to assess its impact on liver disease severity compared to a cow's milk control group. This study aims to determine if the phytoestrogens in soy can improve liver health and reduce obesity-related comorbidities without adverse endocrine effects.
