Overview
Standardised cannabis plant extract, known by the brand name Cannador, is an orally administered botanical drug preparation derived from the *Cannabis sativa* plant. It was developed by the Institute for Clinical Research (IKF) in Berlin and has been evaluated in clinical trials sponsored by the Medical Research Council (MRC) in the United Kingdom. The extract is standardized to contain a specific ratio of cannabinoids, primarily tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD), typically in a 2:1 ratio. Its mechanism of action involves acting as an agonist at the cannabinoid CB1 and CB2 receptors, which are part of the endocannabinoid system and play a key role in modulating pain, inflammation, and muscle spasticity. Cannador has been evaluated for the management of postoperative pain and for the treatment of symptoms associated with multiple sclerosis, such as spasticity and neuropathic pain, most notably in the large-scale CAMS (Cannabinoids in Multiple Sclerosis) trial.
