Overview

Staphefekt is a proprietary recombinant phage endolysin enzyme designed to selectively target and kill *Staphylococcus aureus*, including both methicillin-sensitive and methicillin-resistant strains (MRSA), while sparing other commensal skin bacteria. It acts by binding to the cell wall of *S. aureus* and cleaving bonds in the peptidoglycan layer, resulting in rapid bacterial lysis and death. Staphefekt is developed by Micreos and is marketed as the active ingredient in Gladskin products for topical treatment of *S. aureus*-related skin conditions such as atopic dermatitis, eczema, folliculitis, impetiginized dermatitis, acne, and rosacea. Its highly specific mechanism reduces the risk of resistance development compared to traditional antibiotics[1][2][3][5][6].
