Overview

Staphylococcus albus bacterial lysate is an immunomodulatory biologic agent derived from the lysis of *Staphylococcus albus* (now taxonomically classified as *Staphylococcus epidermidis*). It is primarily utilized as an oral immunostimulant for the prevention and adjunctive treatment of recurrent respiratory tract infections and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The lysate functions by presenting bacterial antigens to the gut-associated lymphoid tissue (GALT) and mucosal-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT), which enhances the production of secretory IgA (SIgA), activates macrophages, and modulates T-lymphocyte activity. Clinical research, including studies conducted at Qingdao Municipal Hospital, has investigated its role in stabilizing airway and gut microbiota and influencing mitochondrial autophagy-related markers to improve lung function in patients with stable COPD.
