Overview

Staphylococcus aureus bacterial lysate is an immunostimulating agent composed of the lysed components of *Staphylococcus aureus* cells. Developed by Laboratorio Farmaceutico S.I.T. (Specialita' Igienico Terapeutiche), it is primarily indicated for the prevention and treatment of recurrent lower respiratory tract infections and other chronic staphylococcal infections, such as furunculosis and skin infections. The lysate acts by presenting bacterial antigens to the mucosal immune system, particularly through the activation of pattern recognition receptors like Toll-like receptors (specifically TLR2). This stimulation triggers both innate and adaptive immune pathways, enhancing the activity of macrophages and natural killer cells, and increasing the production of secretory IgA, thereby strengthening the body's defense against subsequent staphylococcal challenges.
