Staphylococcus aureus immune globulin intravenous is a human-derived immunoglobulin preparation enriched with antibodies targeting Staphylococcus aureus antigens. It is designed to provide passive immunity and enhance the host's ability to neutralize S. aureus toxins and virulence factors, such as leukocidins like LukAB[1][2]. The product is typically used in severe or invasive S. aureus infections where additional antibody-mediated immunity may be beneficial[1]. Its mechanism of action involves supplying exogenous polyclonal IgG antibodies that bind to and neutralize bacterial toxins and facilitate opsonization for enhanced phagocytosis[1]. This drug was initially developed by Nabi Biopharmaceuticals and later by Biotest[4].
