Overview

Starjemza is a biosimilar version of ustekinumab, a human IgG1κ monoclonal antibody targeting interleukin-12 (IL‑12) and interleukin-23 (IL‑23) by binding their shared p40 subunit and preventing interaction with the IL‑12Rβ1 receptor on immune cells.[1][3] Developed and manufactured by Bio-Thera Solutions and commercialized in the United States by Hikma Pharmaceuticals, it is approved as an interleukin‑12/23 antagonist for adults and pediatric patients 6 years and older with moderate to severe plaque psoriasis and active psoriatic arthritis, and for adults with moderately to severely active Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, with the same indications, dosing regimens, strength, dosage form, and route of administration as reference Stelara.[1][3][7] By neutralizing IL‑12 and IL‑23–driven Th1/Th17 inflammatory pathways, Starjemza reduces pathogenic cytokine signaling implicated in chronic inflammatory diseases while offering a cost-effective biosimilar alternative in markets where it is approved.[1][7][9]
