Overview

Starvac is a live-attenuated varicella vaccine developed by Indian Immunologicals (IIL) for the prevention of chickenpox (varicella) in children and adults. It is designed to induce active immunity against the varicella-zoster virus (VZV). Launched in early 2024, Starvac is the first indigenously developed varicella vaccine in India. The vaccine is administered to provide long-term protection against VZV infection, which can cause significant morbidity and complications such as secondary bacterial infections or pneumonia.
