STAT1 siRNA is a small interfering RNA designed to silence the expression of the Signal Transducer and Activator of Transcription 1 (STAT1) protein. In the context of sickle cell disease (SCD) research, STAT1 has been identified as a recruitment partner for 8-Oxoguanine DNA Glycosylase 1 (OGG1) in promoting inflammatory responses. By utilizing STAT1 siRNA to knock down STAT1 levels in macrophages, researchers have demonstrated a significant reduction in the expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as IL-1β, IL-6, and TNF-α. This suggests that targeting the STAT1 pathway may be a potential therapeutic strategy for managing inflammation in SCD.
