Statin + fenofibrate refers to the fixed-dose or co-administered combination of a statin (such as atorvastatin, rosuvastatin, or simvastatin) with fenofibrate. This combination is used primarily for the treatment of mixed dyslipidemia, particularly in patients with high triglycerides and low HDL cholesterol who do not achieve lipid targets on monotherapy. Statins inhibit HMG-CoA reductase, reducing cholesterol synthesis in the liver and lowering LDL cholesterol. Fenofibrate is a peroxisome proliferator–activated receptor alpha (PPARα) agonist that increases lipolysis and elimination of triglyceride-rich particles while raising HDL cholesterol. The combination provides additive effects on lipid parameters—lowering LDL-C and triglycerides while increasing HDL-C—compared to either agent alone[2][5][6].
