Drug intelligence / Profile preview
StatSeal is a topical hemostatic medical device used to control external bleeding and oozing from procedural sites, wounds, and catheter insertion/exit sites. Manufactured by Biolife, LLC (a subsidiary of Merit Medical), it is composed of a hydrophilic polymer and potassium ferrate. The product functions independently of the body's natural clotting cascade by creating a low-pH occlusive seal over the wound. This is achieved through a two-step mechanism: the hydrophilic polymer rapidly dehydrates the blood and absorbs exudate, while the potassium ferrate binds blood solids and proteins together. StatSeal is available in powder and disc forms and is indicated for patients of all ages, including those on anticoagulant therapy.
