Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Steamed beetroot extract is a processed derivative of *Beta vulgaris L.* produced through thermal steaming to enhance the stability and bioavailability of its bioactive constituents. It contains a complex profile of phytochemicals, including betalains (notably betanins), phenolics, flavonoids, organic acids, and saponins. Research indicates that the steaming process preserves these compounds more effectively than boiling, leading to superior cardioprotective outcomes. In preclinical models of high-fat diet-induced obesity and hyperlipidemia, the extract has demonstrated the ability to normalize inflammatory markers such as TNF-α and IL-6, reduce oxidative stress by lowering malondialdehyde (MDA) levels, and restore catalase activity. Furthermore, it suppresses TGF-β expression and caspase-3 activity, thereby protecting heart muscle fibers from fibrosis and apoptosis.
