Drug intelligence / Profile preview
STEDOX-SR is a sustained-release tablet formulation of dexchlorpheniramine maleate, developed and marketed by H & W Labs. Dexchlorpheniramine is the pharmacologically active dextrorotatory S-enantiomer of the first-generation alkylamine antihistamine chlorpheniramine, possessing approximately twice the antihistaminic activity of the racemic mixture. It functions as a competitive antagonist of the histamine H1 receptor, blocking the binding of endogenous histamine to effector cells in the gastrointestinal tract, blood vessels, and respiratory tract. This blockade prevents histamine-induced bronchoconstriction, vasodilation, increased capillary permeability, and sensory nerve stimulation. STEDOX-SR is indicated for the symptomatic relief of various allergic conditions, including perennial and seasonal allergic rhinitis, vasomotor rhinitis, allergic conjunctivitis, and mild, uncomplicated allergic skin manifestations such as urticaria and angioedema.
