Overview

Stedutumab is a monoclonal antibody developed for the treatment of severe tetanus. It acts by specifically binding to and neutralizing tetanospasmin, the potent neurotoxin secreted by *Clostridium tetani*. By neutralizing the toxin before it enters the nervous system, stedutumab aims to mitigate the characteristic muscle spasms, seizures, and autonomic instability associated with the disease. It is currently being investigated in clinical trials, including a Phase 0 study in China (ChiCTR2500111942), as a potentially more potent or standardized alternative to human tetanus immunoglobulin (HTIG) for patients with high-grade tetanus (Ablett grade III–IV).
