Overview

Stem cells from human exfoliated deciduous teeth (SHED) are a population of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) derived from the dental pulp of naturally shed primary teeth. They are characterized by high proliferative capacity, multi-lineage differentiation potential (including odontogenic, osteogenic, and neurogenic), and potent immunomodulatory properties. In clinical applications, SHED are being investigated for dental pulp regeneration in permanent teeth with pulp necrosis. The therapy involves the implantation of allogeneic SHED into the root canal to promote the formation of new vascularized pulp-like tissue and restore sensory function, offering a regenerative alternative to conventional root canal therapy.
