Stem Cells From Human Exfoliated Teeth (SHED) is an investigational mesenchymal stem cell therapy being developed by CAR-T (Shanghai) Biotechnology Co., Ltd. for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus. SHED are multipotent stem cells derived from the dental pulp of naturally exfoliated deciduous (baby) teeth, characterized by high proliferation rates and significant immunomodulatory properties. The therapy is administered via intravenous infusion and is designed to improve pancreatic islet β-cell function, reduce glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c) levels, and modulate systemic inflammatory responses in patients with significantly reduced islet function. The treatment involves a series of infusions intended to promote tissue repair and metabolic regulation.
