Overview

STEMVAC is an investigational multi-antigen DNA plasmid-based cancer vaccine designed to stimulate the immune system to recognize and attack tumor cells. It encodes epitopes from five proteins commonly expressed on cancer stem cells—CD105, YB-1, SOX2, CDH3, and MDM2. By introducing these antigens into the body via a DNA vaccine platform, STEMVAC aims to elicit a robust T-cell mediated immune response (primarily Type I T-cells) against tumors that express these proteins. The vaccine is being developed for use in cancers such as triple-negative breast cancer and non-small cell lung cancer, particularly targeting patients whose tumors do not express HER2 or are resistant to other targeted therapies. Clinical trials are ongoing in early-stage triple-negative breast cancer (Phase II) and stage IV non-squamous non-small cell lung cancer (Phase II). The vaccine is administered with sargramostim (GM-CSF) as an adjuvant to enhance immunogenicity.
