Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Sterify Gel is a sterile, mucoadhesive bioactive hydrogel medical device developed by Sterify S.r.l. in collaboration with the University of Pavia for the treatment of peri-implantitis. The formulation is composed of polyvinyl polymers, hydroxytyrosol (a natural antioxidant), magnesium ascorbyl phosphate (a stable vitamin C derivative), and nisin (an antimicrobial peptide). It is designed to be applied into periodontal and peri-implant pockets following non-surgical debridement, where it adheres to gingival tissues and implant surfaces. This creates a protective physical barrier that prevents bacterial recolonization and supports the healing of inflammatory tissues. The gel is currently being evaluated in a randomized split-mouth clinical trial (NCT07088679) as an adjunct to standard mechanical therapy to improve clinical outcomes such as probing depth and bleeding on probing.
