Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Sterile water for inhalation is a sterile, non-pyrogenic, solute-free, distilled water intended exclusively for use in respiratory therapy, such as humidification of inspired gas (e.g. in ventilators, oxygen therapy equipment, and nebulizers), and as a solvent for inhaled medications[1][2][5][9]. It is processed and packaged to maintain sterility, contains no antimicrobial agents or other added substances, and is not suitable for parenteral (IV) administration due to its hypotonicity. Its use helps prevent mineral buildup in devices and reduces the risk of patient contamination or infection during respiratory therapy[1][2].
