Overview
Sterillium Virugard is a virucidal, alcohol-based hand disinfectant containing a high concentration of ethanol (95 g per 100 g). Manufactured by Bode Chemie (a subsidiary of the HARTMANN Group), it is designed for both hygienic and surgical rub-in hand disinfection, particularly in environments with an elevated risk of infection from viruses such as norovirus, adenovirus, or SARS-CoV-2. The product exerts its antimicrobial effect by denaturing microbial proteins and disrupting lipid membranes, providing broad-spectrum efficacy against bacteria, fungi, and both enveloped and non-enveloped viruses. It was notably the first alcohol-based hand disinfectant to be listed by the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) for its virucidal properties in 1995.
