Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Sterimar is a range of 100% natural, seawater-based nasal sprays used for nasal hygiene and the relief of congestion. Sourced from the Bay of Cancale in Brittany, France, the seawater is filtered and diluted to create either isotonic or hypertonic solutions. As a medical device, Sterimar functions primarily through mechanical irrigation, using a micro-diffusion system to wash away mucus, allergens, crusts, and pollutants from the nasal mucosa. Hypertonic formulations provide additional therapeutic benefit by creating an osmotic gradient that draws excess fluid out of swollen nasal tissues, thereby reducing mucosal edema. The solution is naturally rich in marine trace elements and minerals, such as copper, manganese, and magnesium, which are intended to support the health and defense mechanisms of the respiratory lining. It is widely indicated for the management of allergic rhinitis, sinusitis, the common cold, and post-operative nasal care.
