Overview
A combination therapy consisting of corticosteroids and monoclonal antibodies targeting the interleukin-2 receptor (IL-2R). The anti-IL2R antibodies (basiliximab or daclizumab) bind to the alpha chain (CD25) of the IL-2 receptor on activated T lymphocytes, blocking IL-2 binding and inhibiting T-cell activation. This mechanism is particularly important in preventing transplant rejection and managing certain autoimmune conditions. This combination is primarily used in transplantation medicine to prevent organ rejection and in the treatment of steroid-refractory acute graft-versus-host disease (SR-aGVHD).
