Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This is an investigational natural plant-based gel formulation derived from *Stevia rebaudiana* Bertoni, specifically developed by the SVS Institute of Dental Sciences for the treatment of periodontitis in patients with type 2 diabetes. The gel is applied locally into the gingival sulcus (periodontal pockets) following scaling and root planing. Its therapeutic mechanism involves the bioactive steviol glycosides (primarily stevioside), which provide anti-inflammatory benefits by decreasing the production of tumor necrosis factor receptors (TNF-R) and interleukin-1 alpha (IL-1a). Additionally, it exhibits antimicrobial properties by reducing the formation of bacterial insoluble polymers (biofilms) and may help modulate glucose levels in the gingival crevicular fluid (GCF).
