Overview

STI-1557 is a next-generation mRNA vaccine developed by Sorrento Therapeutics specifically designed to target SARS-CoV-2 Omicron variants. The vaccine utilizes a proprietary lipid nanoparticle (LNP) formulation to encapsulate and protect the mRNA from degradation, ensuring efficient translation of the spike (S) protein within host cells following intramuscular administration. A distinguishing feature of STI-1557 is the incorporation of a mutation in the furin cleavage site of the encoded spike protein; this modification prevents the S1 subunit from cleaving and detaching, which is intended to keep the protein attached to the cell membrane and potentially enhance the induction of a potent adaptive immune response. It is being developed for the prevention of COVID-19 infections caused by Omicron-related lineages.
