Overview

COVI-DROPS (STI-2099) is an investigational intranasal formulation of a neutralizing monoclonal antibody developed for the treatment of COVID-19. It is designed to be administered as nasal drops to recently infected patients with asymptomatic or mild COVID-19. The drug utilizes the same neutralizing antibody substance as Sorrento’s intravenous formulation (COVI-AMG), targeting the SARS-CoV-2 virus and its variants of concern, including Alpha and Delta. The mechanism involves direct binding and neutralization of SARS-CoV-2 in the nasal mucosa, aiming to prevent viral progression and severe disease. Developed by Sorrento Therapeutics, it has undergone Phase 1 safety studies in healthy volunteers and entered Phase 2 efficacy trials in outpatients with COVID-19 in multiple countries[1][4][5].
