Overview

Stibium metallicum praeparatum 6x (SMP) is an anthroposophic medicinal product being investigated by the University of Bern for the prevention of chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN), particularly in early breast cancer patients undergoing paclitaxel treatment. The drug is a homeopathically prepared form of metallic antimony at a 6x decimal dilution. It is administered as a subcutaneous injection three times weekly during chemotherapy and for six weeks following its completion. The clinical efficacy of SMP is being evaluated in the Phase III PROPEL NO TOX trial (NCT04715542), which aims to determine if the treatment can reduce the incidence or severity of neurotoxic symptoms such as pain, numbness, and tingling. While authorized in Switzerland by Swissmedic as an anthroposophic product, its specific molecular mechanism of action remains undefined in conventional pharmacological terms.
