Overview

Stillen is a botanical pharmaceutical product developed by Dong-A ST, derived from the ethanol extract of *Artemisia asiatica* (Mugwort). It is primarily indicated for the treatment of gastric mucosal lesions, such as erosion, hemorrhage, redness, and edema, associated with acute and chronic gastritis, and for the prevention of gastric mucosal damage in patients taking non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). Stillen exerts its therapeutic effects through a multi-modal cytoprotective mechanism that includes the stimulation of endogenous prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) synthesis and the enhancement of gastric mucus secretion. Additionally, it possesses significant anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, mediated by the inhibition of nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB) activation and the reduction of inflammatory cytokines like interleukin-8 (IL-8). As the first 'natural product drug' approved in South Korea, Stillen has established a significant clinical presence in the management of acid-related gastrointestinal disorders.
