sTim-3-Ig is a soluble fusion protein designed to block the T cell immunoglobulin and mucin domain protein 3 (Tim-3) pathway. Tim-3 is a negative immune regulator involved in the pathophysiology of sepsis. By blocking Tim-3 signaling, sTim-3-Ig aims to modulate immune responses, potentially exacerbating proinflammatory macrophage responses and lymphocyte apoptosis in early sepsis, and enhancing anti-inflammatory shifts in later stages, thereby influencing T helper cell and macrophage activity. This mechanism suggests a role in regulating immune deviation and immunosuppression in conditions like sepsis.
