Drug intelligence / Profile preview
STIMULAN is a bioabsorbable calcium sulfate biomaterial developed by Biocomposites for the local delivery of antibiotics in the management of infected bone and soft tissue. It is composed of high-purity calcium sulfate dihydrate that can be mixed with surgeon-selected antibiotics (such as vancomycin, gentamicin, or tobramycin) to form beads or a paste. Once implanted, the matrix dissolves completely over 30 to 60 days, releasing high concentrations of the antimicrobial agents directly at the site of infection while managing dead space. It is primarily indicated for orthopedic applications, including osteomyelitis, diabetic foot infections, and post-traumatic infections.
