Drug intelligence / Profile preview
STIMULAN VG is a synthetic calcium sulfate antibiotic carrier developed by Biocomposites. It is designed to deliver high local concentrations of antibiotics directly to the site of infection while being fully resorbable. The "VG" designation indicates the inclusion of vancomycin and gentamicin, providing broad-spectrum coverage against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, including MRSA. It is primarily used in the management of bone and soft tissue infections, such as diabetic foot osteomyelitis and osteomyelitis associated with pressure ulcers, often as an adjunct to surgical debridement and systemic antibiotic therapy. While the base STIMULAN product is a cleared medical device, the VG formulation containing antibiotics is being evaluated as a drug intervention in clinical trials.
