STMC-106

STMC-106 is a preclinical, mixed-strain live biotherapeutic product (LBP) being developed by Siolta Therapeutics for the prevention and treatment of necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) in high-risk preterm infants. [2, 4, 8] It consists of a synergistic combination of protective, infant-derived bacteria, including strains of Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium. [2, 4] The therapy is designed to address abnormal gut microbiota associated with NEC by colonizing the infant's gut to reduce pathogen colonization, reinforce the intestinal epithelial barrier, and decrease inflammation. [2, 3, 4] The program has received grant funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and is being developed under an Investigational New Drug (IND) pathway for approval as a biologic by the FDA.
