Overview

STN1014200 (also known as CBT-001) is an ophthalmic emulsion formulation of nintedanib, a potent multi-tyrosine kinase inhibitor. Developed by Santen Pharmaceutical in collaboration with Cloudbreak Therapeutics, it is primarily being investigated for the treatment of pterygium, a benign growth of the conjunctiva that can extend onto the cornea. The drug works by inhibiting key signaling pathways involved in angiogenesis and fibrosis, specifically targeting vascular endothelial growth factor receptors (VEGFR), platelet-derived growth factor receptors (PDGFR), and fibroblast growth factor receptors (FGFR). By blocking these receptors, STN1014200 aims to reduce the vascularity and growth of pterygium lesions, potentially providing a non-surgical therapeutic option for patients. It is currently in Phase 2 clinical development in Japan.
