Drug intelligence / Profile preview
STP206 is an investigational, orally administered live biotherapeutic product comprising *Lactobacillus acidophilus* and *Bifidobacterium animalis* subsp. *lactis*. It was developed by Sigma-Tau Pharmaceuticals, subsequently renamed Leadiant Biosciences, as a pharmaceutical-grade microbiome therapy intended to reduce the risk of necrotizing enterocolitis in very-low-birth-weight and extremely-low-birth-weight premature infants. The product received FDA orphan-drug designation for prevention of necrotizing enterocolitis and was evaluated in completed Phase 1 studies in healthy adults and premature neonates.
