STRASS2 neoadjuvant chemotherapy

STRASS2 neoadjuvant chemotherapy refers to the histology-tailored preoperative chemotherapy regimens evaluated in the **STRASS2 (EORTC 1809)** Phase III clinical trial. Sponsored by the **European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC)**, this intervention is designed for patients with high-risk retroperitoneal sarcoma. The treatment strategy is histology-specific: patients with dedifferentiated liposarcoma (DDLPS) receive a combination of **doxorubicin** (or epirubicin) and **ifosfamide**, while patients with leiomyosarcoma (LMS) receive **doxorubicin** and **dacarbazine**. These agents are conventional cytotoxic small molecules that function by intercalating DNA, inhibiting topoisomerase II, or alkylating DNA to induce cell death in rapidly dividing cancer cells. The trial aims to determine if three cycles of these neoadjuvant regimens followed by surgery improve disease-free survival compared to surgery alone.
