Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Strengthening Spleen and Tonifying Kidney Granules is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) herbal formulation developed by The First Affiliated Hospital of Henan University of Chinese Medicine. It is specifically indicated for the prevention of recurrent ascites in patients with hepatitis B virus (HBV)-related cirrhosis who present with the TCM syndrome of spleen and kidney deficiency. The formulation works by tonifying the spleen and kidney, which in TCM theory are the primary organs responsible for fluid regulation and vital essence. By addressing these underlying deficiencies, the granules aim to improve the overall efficacy of cirrhosis management and reduce the frequency of ascites episodes. It is currently being evaluated in clinical trials (e.g., ChiCTR2300079093) as part of a standardized Chinese medicine program for liver disease complications within the Henan Province TCM discipline construction project.
