Streptacells is an investigational adoptive cell therapy (biologic/cellular therapy) being developed by Stage Pharmaceuticals GmbH. It consists of CMV-specific donor T cells isolated using proprietary Streptamer technology — a reversible multimer-based selection method that uses biotin-streptavidin interactions to isolate antigen-specific T cells from donor peripheral blood without permanently labeling the cells. The active ingredient is Streptamer-isolated, CMV-specific cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTLs) derived from allogeneic donors. The biological target is cytomegalovirus (CMV), specifically CMV antigens such as pp65, which are recognized by the isolated donor T cells. Streptacells is being evaluated in a Phase I/II clinical trial in Germany for the treatment of chronic persistent cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection that is refractory to antiviral chemotherapy in patients who have undergone allogeneic bone marrow or peripheral blood stem cell transplantation.
