Overview

Streptococcus agalactiae bacterial lysate is a biological immunomodulating agent consisting of inactivated cellular components derived from the lysis of *Streptococcus agalactiae* (Group B Streptococcus). Developed by Laboratorio Farmaceutico S.I.T., it is primarily utilized as a key active constituent in polyvalent bacterial vaccines, most notably Lantigen B, which is indicated for the prophylaxis and treatment of recurrent lower respiratory tract infections. The lysate functions as an immunostimulant by interacting with pattern recognition receptors, specifically Toll-like receptor 2 (TLR2), on the surface of mucosal antigen-presenting cells. This interaction triggers the innate immune system, leading to the activation of macrophages and dendritic cells, and subsequently enhances adaptive immunity by stimulating the production of secretory IgA and the activation of T-lymphocytes. This dual mechanism strengthens the mucosal defenses of the respiratory tract, thereby reducing the frequency and severity of bacterial infectious episodes.
