Streptococcus pneumoniae attenuated strain I

Streptococcus pneumoniae attenuated strain I is a live, genetically modified, virulence-attenuated strain of *Streptococcus pneumoniae* developed by the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM). It is designed as an experimental nasal immunization agent to induce local and systemic immunity, including antibody and T-cell responses, against pneumococcal colonization and infection. The strain was evaluated in a single-blind randomized controlled human experimental carriage study (Experimental Human Pneumococcal Colonisation/EHPC model) to assess its safety and ability to provide protection against wild-type challenge. It is intended for the prevention of pneumococcal diseases such as pneumonia, meningitis, and bacteremia.
