Overview
Streptococcus pneumoniae type 10A capsular polysaccharide diphtheria CRM197 protein conjugate antigen is a component of pneumococcal conjugate vaccines, such as Prevnar 20. It consists of the purified capsular polysaccharide from Streptococcus pneumoniae serotype 10A chemically linked (conjugated) to the non-toxic mutant diphtheria toxin carrier protein, CRM197. This glycoconjugation enhances immunogenicity by inducing a T-cell dependent immune response, resulting in robust and long-lasting immunity even in young children and immunocompromised individuals. The primary indication is active immunization for the prevention of invasive disease caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae, including conditions like pneumococcal pneumonia and bacteremia[3][4][8]. The vaccine is administered via intramuscular injection.
