Overview

Streptococcus pneumoniae type 14 capsular polysaccharide antigen is a highly purified bacterial carbohydrate derived from the capsule of Streptococcus pneumoniae serotype 14. It serves as an immunogenic component in vaccines, stimulating the host immune system to produce protective antibodies against invasive pneumococcal diseases such as pneumonia and bacteremia. The antigen can be used alone or conjugated to carrier proteins (such as tetanus toxoid) to enhance immunogenicity, especially in young children. Its mechanism of action is based on inducing a specific antibody response targeting the bacterial capsule, thereby preventing infection by facilitating opsonization and clearance of the pathogen[2][5][8]. This antigen is included in multivalent pneumococcal vaccines for active immunization.
