Overview

Streptococcus pneumoniae type 15B capsular polysaccharide diphtheria CRM197 protein conjugate antigen is a component of certain pneumococcal conjugate vaccines. It consists of the purified capsular polysaccharide from Streptococcus pneumoniae serotype 15B, chemically linked (conjugated) to a nontoxic variant of diphtheria toxin known as CRM197. This conjugation enhances immunogenicity by inducing a T-cell dependent immune response, leading to improved antibody production and immunological memory compared to unconjugated (polysaccharide-only) vaccines[1][3][8]. The primary indication is for active immunization against invasive pneumococcal disease and pneumonia caused by S. pneumoniae serotype 15B[2][5]. This antigen may be included in multivalent pneumococcal vaccines such as PCV20 or PCV21, which are designed for broader protection against multiple S. pneumoniae serotypes[5][8].
