Overview

Streptococcus pneumoniae type 33F capsular polysaccharide diphtheria CRM197 protein conjugate antigen is a component of pneumococcal conjugate vaccines designed to protect against disease caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae serotype 33F. The vaccine contains purified capsular polysaccharides from the bacterial surface, which are chemically linked (conjugated) to the CRM197 carrier protein—a non-toxic mutant of diphtheria toxin. This conjugation enhances immunogenicity, especially in young children and immunocompromised individuals, by inducing a T-cell dependent immune response. The primary indication is active immunization for the prevention of invasive pneumococcal diseases such as bacteremia and pneumonia[2][4][7]. Conjugate vaccines containing this antigen are part of broader multivalent formulations targeting multiple S. pneumoniae serotypes.
