Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This drug is a component of pneumococcal conjugate vaccines, consisting of the purified capsular polysaccharide from *Streptococcus pneumoniae* serotype 9V covalently linked to the nontoxic diphtheria toxin variant CRM197 as a carrier protein. The conjugation to CRM197 enhances immunogenicity by inducing a T-cell dependent immune response, resulting in robust and long-lasting immunity even in young children. It is used for active immunization against invasive diseases (such as pneumonia and bacteremia) caused by *S. pneumoniae* serotype 9V, and is included in multivalent vaccines like PCV13 (Prevnar 13), PCV15 (Vaxneuvance), and PCV20 (Prevnar 20)[1][3][6]. These vaccines are administered intramuscularly for prevention of pneumococcal disease across various age groups.
