Overview
46-SL1 is a proprietary, naturally occurring, non-genetically modified (non-GMO) probiotic strain of *Streptococcus salivarius* developed by Cambiotics, a spin-off from the University of Cambridge. It is designed to support the body's natural elimination of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), commonly known as "forever chemicals". 46-SL1 works by bioaccumulating PFAS within the gastrointestinal tract, preventing their reabsorption through the enterohepatic circulation and promoting their excretion via feces. The strain is being evaluated in clinical trials as a dietary supplement to reduce serum PFAS levels in populations with high occupational exposure, such as firefighters.
