Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Renadyl is a proprietary probiotic formulation developed by Kibow Biotech, consisting of three specific strains: *Streptococcus thermophilus* KB27, *Lactobacillus acidophilus* KB31, and *Bifidobacterium longum* KB35. It is designed to support kidney function by utilizing "enteric dialysis," a process where probiotic bacteria metabolize nitrogenous wastes (such as urea, uric acid, and creatinine) in the colon, thereby reducing the burden on impaired kidneys. It is primarily marketed as a dietary supplement for patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) and has been evaluated in clinical trials for its ability to improve quality of life and reduce toxin levels in patients with renal failure. The formulation is also marketed for veterinary use under the brand name Azodyl for the management of azotemia in dogs and cats.
