A combination of two enzymes, streptokinase and streptodornase, both produced by hemolytic streptococci. This mixture is used primarily for its enzymatic debridement properties. It is applied topically to surface lesions or instilled in closed body cavities to remove clotted blood, fibrinous material, or purulent accumulations. The mechanism of action involves: - **Streptokinase** acts as a plasminogen activator, forming a complex with plasminogen that converts it into the active enzyme plasmin. Plasmin then degrades fibrin clots and other plasma proteins[1][4][3]. - **Streptodornase** is a deoxyribonuclease that liquefies pus by depolymerizing DNA in necrotic tissue. This combination facilitates the removal of dead tissue and exudates from wounds or body cavities but is not typically used systemically for thrombolysis like intravenous streptokinase alone[3].
